Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect 2 will be a welcome addition to those who enjoyed the first PC games, but there are a number of great changes that have been put in place. If you played the first version of the game, then you will know that some of the best things about it were how you felt compelled to complete the storyline in order to learn more about the conflicts in what happens with the reapers.

Mass Effect 2 starts very shortly after the first one was left off, and you find that Shepard is now a human hero. There is a very nice feature with this game, in that if you have your saved file from the first game, it will affect many of the things that occur in the sequel, based on the decisions that you took in the first game.

Changes from the first game

The underlying theme of Mass Effect 2 is more of the same, but there are many changes. For example, you no loner have an inventory like in more normal RPG’s. Instead of this you now have specific weapons that you can use during your journey, and you have ways to improve them and upgrade them. This is done by using minerals that can be found while you explore the galaxy.

One of the only negative points that people have made against Mass Effect 2 is that the galaxy exploring can get repetitive and boring at times. There is a lot of time invested in this aspect of the game, while the rest of it flows very well and is very well paced. This is a very important aspect to any game, and makes a huge difference in the game playing experience. For PC users, this aspect of the game can be diminished by adjusting the mouse speed, however this is not possible for Xbox 360 users.

You will notice that Mass Effect 2 is much more in the first player mode than the first game. In many ways this is actually a first player shooter game with a very strong storyline and realistic party members. The guns are no longer able to overheat, but this time you don’t have unlimited ammunition (but you can easily top this up).

The delay that was experienced in the first game, due to overheating is replaced in this version by the need to reload your weapon, so the end result is almost the same.

You also have many different party members in this version and they all have specific abilities that can be unlocked when you do specific side quests for them. You can also find a number of other upgrades for your armour and weapons during the side quests. Overall, this has a great storyline, but you may not be totally happy as many things cannot be solved in part 2 of the trilogy.
